Cape Ivy

Senecio angulatus - Image courtesy of WeedbustersSpecial disposal notes:  Cut stems can layer and grow. Leave hanging up in tree to dry out, dry and burn, or take to landfill

How to Control:

  1. Hand pull small plants, or dig out roots (all year round). Dispose of at a refuse transfer station, burn, or bury deeply.
  2. Cut stump application: Cut and treat stems/stump with (100ml glyphosate/1L water) or (1g metsulfuron/1L water).
  3. Cut stems below waist height & spray below this point, spring-summer with (100ml glyphosate+20ml penetrant/10L water) or (2g metsulfuron+10ml penetrant/10L water), or 60ml Tordon Brushkiller® +10ml penetrant//10L water) or (120ml Banvine +10ml penetrant//10L water). Add penetrant to all mixes.

Best controlled during flowering, when highly visible, before seed is produced. Wind spreads the seed, and seed and fragments are spread in dumped vegetation and soil movement.  Untreated cut stumps and dropped stems resprout. Bared areas reseed.

CAUTION: when using any herbicide or pesticide PLEASE READ THE LABEL THOROUGHLY to ensure that all instructions and safety requirements are followed.
